Our History
Family Bridges has a rich history with roots in Oakland’s immigrant community. In the late 1960s, after changes in immigration laws, many Chinese immigrants came to in the United States. They were escaping social turmoil and seeking new opportunities. Many settled in Oakland but struggled to understand English, find affordable housing, and access health care.
To meet these challenges, a group of volunteers established the Oakland Chinese Community Council, Inc. in 1968 and offered information and referral services. Overtime, we expanded beyond the Chinese community, growing into a multi-service organization that reflects the diversity of the East Bay. In 2000, we became Family Bridges, Inc., to better support and serve underserved communities.

Our Commitment
As a non-profit, multi-service organization, Family Bridges is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment . We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome staff, volunteers, and clients regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
At Family Bridges, we believe in empowering individuals and strengthening our community—together.
